Chapter 1: The Mysterious Past
In the dark, smelly, rat filled alley in Jhonson City, Arkansas, a girl sat. The cold, whooshing air blew past her. If a person passed her, perhaps they may have thought of her sleeping. But no; the child was far from tired. She was wide awake, just crying intently.
This was Luna Peterson Smith. A girl, one might think, would be in her house eating dinner and having conversations with her family. People passing by often thought of her as a stray, like an animal. She wasn’t surprised, for she did look and smell nasty. But she could not help it.
Once, eight years ago, Luna had a home, a family. She’d been five. Back then, her parents were still very much alive.
Her father worked as the mayor. She still remembered the smell of his black cloak as he came home at exactly fifteen past seven each afternoon. Her mother, on the other hand, prefered staying at home and cooking meals. Luna used to love the taste of her mother’s delicious meat loaf.
Luna might’ve even had a sister.
But not anymore.
