Chapter 2: The Life No One Has
In the daytime, Luna tried helplessly to make money to buy food. If she wasn’t successful enough, she’d have to look for dinner in the garbage dump in the alley. It was a very disgusting place.
That day, Luna only got 46 cents, and obviously there was nothing to buy with that, except maybe a small, kid-size juice box. She bought that and sat back down in her alley, drinking the orange juice hungirly.
But now it was night, and she didn’t have anything to eat for she had no more money. It was clear, her dinner would be in the trash cans.
Once, a person passing by felt sorry for Luna and he suggested she sell her necklace she always wore around her neck. But no. She couldn’t, for that very necklace was her parents’. She hardly knew them, but she understood that they loved her more than anything.
The necklace was heart-shaped, probably an amulet or a locket. Luna forgot the difference. It opened, revealing a tiny portrait of her parents (probably) at their wedding (again, probably.)
Anyway, Luna walked stiffly over there, reached in, and grabbed the first thing she felt. It turned out to be a can. Carefully, she opened it, and ate what was inside. It turned out to be corn!
Better than saliva-coated chicken nuggets, she thought.
And so she finished it, licking her lips. Soon she would be asleep in the dirty alley of Jhonson City, Arkansas
